Twitter is a powerful but simple tool with huge appeal. And with 2.3 million unique visitors in August alone, fast becoming a major communication strategy for business.
Social networking can be an integral part of your business marketing strategies if you use the tools effectively. Twitter is one that can be a great resource to improve profits or a huge waste of time. Follow these steps to incorporate Twitter into your daily marketing strategies. Step One to Twitter SuccessThis may be obvious but you must first sign up for a twitter account. Your personal account allows you to complete a quick bio about yourself, do not use that space to identify your title. Use that space to make a quick connection with your target market. Be specific about how you solve your target market's problem. The new social networking is about creating relationships so being sure to use a photo helps people connect with you on a personal level. Also allow Twitter to search your email account for contacts already on Twitter to make some quick connections. Step Two of a Great Twitter StrategyDownload TweetDeck to help manage your tweets (140 character micro blog). This is where you begin getting strategic in who you follow. TweetDeck has a global search function. Set up global searches to help you identify people you should follow. An example would be if your ideal clients are moms you could search for terms like soccer games, car pool, kids, etc. and that will help you identify people you should be following. You can monitor people that use those terms in their Twitter posts to determine if they are in your target market. Most people will follow in return and you should as well if someone follows you. Step Three is to Build RelationshipsAs you begin twittering do not simply promote your services and products. It is more important to build the relationship. To let your followers get to know you and trust you. Take the time to become a great resource and create friends. Those friends will then help you promote your services and products. To begin creating the relationship send a thank you to everyone that follows you. Do not ask them to do business with you in that thank you. If you have a blog certainly let your twitter followers know when you have a new blog post. This is one more way for them to get to know you. Finally, when given the opportunity to support a follower take advantage of that opportunity. A philosophy that works is, in doing good you will do well. What Should You AvoidTwitter, like any other social networking, can be profitable or a waste of time if not done strategically. Don't be fooled into believing because access to a tool is free that there is not a cost associated with it. Your time and the image your create both have a high cost. You must evaluate the return on investment of your time. Avoid having your Tweetdeck open all day as it will become a huge waste of time. It is almost impossible to not check every tweet that comes across your screen. A better strategy is to determine what time of day is best for you and exactly how much time you will spend when you log on. You may even use a timer to keep you focused on the objective. An effective strategy may be a few moments each morning to welcome everyone and a few minutes in the afternoon or evening. Use caution; it can become addictive. You must also be aware of the image you are putting out in the market place. Of course you want to be yourself but remember to always remain professional in your interactions. Not doing do could be costly to your business. Happy Twittering!!!
