Viral Marketing Through Blogs

Posting Comments to Relevant Blogs is Visible, and Viral

One way to attract attention is to post comments to blog posts that are relevant to your product or service.

Viral marketing is the marketing strategy of the decade- there are many ways to do it, but a new way is to post valid, targeted comments to blog posts that are directly related to your blog, product, or service.

It is very important to make sure that you don't leave just a "canned" comment - this is easily interpreted as spam and will be discarded as such by many of the antispam programs bloggers are starting to employ. Take the time to find out the name of the blog post author, address your comment specifically to him or her, and be specific about how your information is relevant.

Don't just leave a URL either without giving some details as to why visitors to the blog should take the time to visit it. URL's left with just a few words ARE blog spam!

If you do leave a well written, clear and concise comment with your URL and contact information, along with the information you are trying to virally spread - chances are good that other visitors to the blog will visit your site and the blog owner may send you a personal reply.

If you set up a strategy of leaving 10 targeted comments a day to well-visited blogs, you will have the beginnings of a viral campaign. Keep a log of the ones you have commented on, so you don't hit them twice. Also, to make sure they have a solid readership, check www.technorati.com and look at how many other blogs link to them and their blog rank. The higher the better!

Andrea Coutu :
Thank you for writing this. I can't believe how many spam messages I have to zap at my blog. People write things like, "Nice blog. Buy a hummer ." Or "Interesting. Have you tried ?" I suppose this must slip by some people, but I try not to let those sorts of posts through.

Yes, it is important if you are going to comment - to use MEANINGFUL COMMENTS. I try to monitor my blog spam, but it gets tedious.
